| Redoing the code for the Google cryptex. Step 1. Dial in the code that you were given. For the most of us it should be "GRAIL" and pull the cryptex apart.
Step 2. On the main part of the cryptex there are 2 tiny flat head screws embedded in the end cap.
Step 3. Undo the screws and save them for later.
Step 4. Remove the end cap and place it to the side. Now, remove the first ring. Followed by the second ring. The other rings, I don't think, matter because the tube is only keyed for 2 dials to work.
Step 5. On the first ring... notice the notches... One the white part there is a bump,"check bump", on the inside of the ring. That just keeps the white outer ring from moving around. The part we are concerned with is the BIG notch on the inside of the bass ring. This is the "key notch" ( or that is what I am going to call it from now on. ) If you look at it... the key notch should be right over the "L" on the last dial and over the "I" in the 4th dial.
Step 6. Remove the white ring and position the letter over the key notch that you want it to be. For example... If you want the last letter to be "E" you would reposition the white dial so that "E" was over the big notch on the brass ring. Now do the same for the next ring.
Step 7. Reassemble the dials and rescrew in the end caps. By the way... The little brass spacer goes toward the end of the cryptex that does not move. Also, when screwing in the tiny screws they do go in all the way and are flush with the end cap. Step 8 . Now, dial in your new code and insert your tube with your new code. *Side note* The end that the tube in on, that cap is a screw on top. My thoughts are so that they can replace the "key tube" with the one they are going to sell. From using only 2 dials to using 5.
